Gotta scrape the $#17 right off your shoe

The third album in the Stones classic trilogy, "Exile On Main Street" is a must have for any true fan - both of the band and the Blues/Rock genre.
This edition is a triumph of repackaging. You get the original album in two formats, a collection of out-takes and alternative versions, a documentary DVD, reproductions of the postcards from the original fold-out vinyl album cover design and a commemorative book. Clearly, one for Stones obsessives. (Who? Me?) Most people will be content with the regular 2010 two-CD re-issue edition.
For anyone who does not know the music, where have you been?! Like The Beatles' White Album, there is probably too much material but this does not seem to matter. You just listen to it all the way through. The sound quality does seem slightly improved over the Bob Ludwig/Apogee UV22 (Virgin Records) remaster edition of 2002.
Is the additional material worth the extra money? Only you can decide. Personally, I was disappointed by the image quality of the cover printing. It seemed as if the original designs had been scaled down to CD proportions and then re-expanded with the inevitable accompanying drop in dots-per-inch resolution. Shame.
If, like me, you are a musician and you have been wearing out copies of EOMS since 1972, this edition of the album is essential. If the price seems too steep, hang around for a few years, there will probably be yet another re-issue to coincide with the fortieth anniversary and/or to exploit the next generation of digital audio remastering technology.
Superb Value

For a Rolling Stones fan this is a must have package. The new tracks are particularly interesting and the remastering has been done superbly.
wow..what a rip off,,plunder our walletts mick

wow..we know that the stones have been more of a corporation in the spirit of a rock n roll mcdonalds..or "the walmart of rocknroll" for around 30 years or more now..but they were for a breif 5 or 6 years an incredible band, one of the best, and exile on main street is one of their greatest moments...so this box should and could of been awesome, however it is a disgrace and definetly something ive already sold off as i dont want it in my collection..i actually hate this reissue..why??
a 30 minute dvd that is now released as a 151 minute dvd making this dvd a waste of time..FOR the money we deserve at least the full dvd not some 30 collection of outtakes...no one can argue against the fact that the stones are just ripping us off here
a petty shoddy book of familiar photos with little to none text..no new notes revealing any new facts etc...probably the worst book ever put out on the stones..
the newly over dubbed tracks sound like eightiss outtakes..so the bonus disc is awful to
...possibly the worst box set ever released..a complete blatant rip off..compared it to the dylan beatles neil young etc boxes this is mick and the boys at their most corporate money crabbing worst..
their are hours of footage and genuine outatkes from exile on main street and none of it is here
Buy older versions

I have to agree with F. Bunnik. Although I haven't listened to the Exile Remaster, or should that be 'remix'!!!!, I have however listened to the other re-issues from sticky fingers onwards. So I'm not even gonna waste my time with it.
I bought the remasters box set and was very disappointed. I was shocked they let this out. I have the original CD's and some of the original vinyl's. In comparison, vinyl is best, followed by the original CD's then the remasters. The original CD's are a closer match to the records. The new versions are too hard to listen to, even at low levels. As F. Bunnik has mentioned, it's over compressed probably due to the levels being ramped up. This is done for a loudness 'wow' effect. It results in a uncomfortable listen and loss of dynamics.
Shame really. Especially when you see/hear how it's supposed to be done with the Beatles remasters. Get on ebay or down to a record store and get the albums on vinyl or the older CD's.
Rocking band though...
