Amazon.co.uk Review
It begins with a twittering of birdsong lifted from "Across The Universe". And once the triple-tracked a capella harmonies of "Because" enter, followed by snatches from "A Hard Day's Night" and "The End", leading into a fired-up "Get Back", it becomes obvious that this is far more than just another Beatles compilation. This is "Love", conceived by the Fabs' former producer George Martin and son Giles as a stageshow soundtrack to Cirque de Soleil's Las Vegas spectacular of the same name, but appears to have taken on a life of its own. Where The Beatles' last release 1 delivered the (over?) familiar hits in a nice simple package, this is a mélange of the familiar and obscure, all literally mixed together in one 78-minute audio collage which succeeds in reminding the listener just why The Beatles truly are, as Lennon put it "toppermost of the poppermost". There's no new Beatles material per se, but the songs are all approached differently--some are cut together in a flawlessly mixed medley (check out the "Mr Kite/I Want You/Helter Skelter" moment), some reassemble different backing tracks and vocal performances to create new spins on old classics, but all the songs are revitalized considerably. Even in its weakest moments (which probably work better in the context of the show itself), it's still a formidable prospect, and one has to admire Martin's willingness to go out on a limb with such a project. While purists may complain that the cut'n'paste nature of the project is simply tampering with perfection, at the very least it'll make them reach for the originals and enjoy them all over again. For newcomers and everyone else, it makes a fine listen, both in its sonic clarity (the actual tracks are the best they've sounded on CD) and audacious nature.--Thom Allott

The Beatles Love at the Las Vegas Mirage Hotel
Review date: 2010-01-24 Rating: 10 out of 10
I was given this CD as a Christmas present this year, having watched the live show at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas earlier this year. It brings back all the memories of the show, which was absolutely fantastic and without doubt the highlight of my trip to Las Vegas. The CD is the sound track to the show, perhaps they will bring out a DVD for the actual show in the future, I would definately buy it
Just because the technology makes something possible, that's not a reason to do it...

... because if you do the result can be fairly awful. Digitally editing together (and pitch- and tempo-shifting the material where necessary) does not automatically give you something worthy. Here, the result is an upmarket 'Stars-On-45' (for those who remember that abomination) that doesn't hang together, makes no sense and doesn't work. That and the sound of the bottom of a barrel being scraped. The only redeeming feature is the quality of the original music, now hacked up and pasted back together in no logical pattern.
This most be the biggest artistic faux pas the otherwise marvellous Sir George Martin has ever committed.
Just get the original records, if you're that interested.
An Outstanding Mix of Beatles Music and Sounds!!
Review date: 2009-12-28 Rating: 10 out of 10
When I first heard that Sir George Martin was to do a remix album of Beatles, I admit I was skeptical. I felt that The Beatles' music is unique and should not be changed by anyone (even Sir George).
However, when I first heard this album, my opinion TOTALLY changed - I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY on hearing it.
It is a very atmospheric and beautiful remix of different bits of many Beatles songs throughout their career. No one moment is left without careful consideration, and you just don't want it to end. At 1hr 19mins, they certainly put a lot into it.
I have listened to it several times since, and I am still not bored - on the contrary it stills puts me on some other plain.
Trying to work out where different instruments, drum lines, bass lines etc. come from which songs, is enough to entertain you for many many hearings of the album.
Sir George and Giles Martin - there's still much Beatles music and sounds unused, please make a volume 2!
A worthwhile venture

This is not for everyone. I can quite understand that some people won't see the point of this remix album: after all, the original Beatles masters have been around for most of our lifetimes. We're very familiar with them - perhaps, over-familiar with them. What can be gained by remixing these tracks?
Well: a lot. By marrying some tunes with different rhythm tracks, Giles and George Martin have given us an exciting new look at the Beatles....as well as including snippets from the original sessions that many won't be familiar with (those who haven't checked out the Anthologies, in any case). And the remastering is quite superb. Ever wanted to hear I Am The Walrus in full stereo? Here's your chance.
All in all, this is very rewarding: I have no problem listening to it straight through, without skipping.
